The Stereo Years (Decca 485 1583). In the mid-1950s Decca frequently ran experimental stereo control rooms in parallel with the mono recordings using a different producer and engineer. An original binaural master, with matrix number ZAL2953, has been located in our archives and used for the stereo transfer heard here. This is now officially the first stereo release of Ansermet's Gopak with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and makes for fascinating comparison with its mono counterpart. The stereo version was destined at the time for inclusion on a London (US Decca) stereo LP (CS 6176), but this album was never released and only a test pressing survives.
